Mitsubishi Lancer: Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) TOP SAFETY PICK for Fourth Consecutive Year

Mitsubishi Lancer: Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) TOP SAFETY PICK for Fourth Consecutive Year

Tue, Jul 20, 2010 - CYPRESS, California -

For the fourth year in a row, a model in Mitsubishi Motors North America, Inc., (MMNA) lineup is one of the select vehicles to be named by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) as a "Top Safety Pick."

The popular and stylish 2010 Mitsubishi Lancer, when equipped with the optional electronic stability control (ESC), joins this elite group that meets the Insurance Institute's very stringent criteria for vehicle crash testing.

In order for a vehicle to be named a "Top Safety Pick" by the Insurance Institute, a car must earn a "good" rating in the organization's three critical areas of analysis:

  1. High-speed front impact crash testing
  2. High-speed side impact crash testing
  3. Evaluation of seat/head restraints for protection against net injuries in rear impact crash testing

The organization also requires that a winning vehicle must offer electronic stability control (ESC) as the Institute's research indicates that it "significantly reduces crash risk, especially the risk of fatal single-vehicle crashes, by helping drivers maintain control of their vehicles during an emergency maneuvers."

The Institute's scoring system consists of ratings of "good," "acceptable," "marginal" or "poor."

2010 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution

2010 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution: At-A-Glance

Tue, Jul 06, 2010 - CYPRESS, Calif. -

Automotive media and car enthusiasts the world over have long considered the Lancer Evolution to be one of the best - if not the greatest - 4-door sports sedan of all time. Landing at dealer showrooms in Fall of 2010, the motoring masses will be able to welcome a new member to Mitsubishi Motor's awe-inspiring family.

Slotting between the Lancer Evolution GSR and the top-flight MR Touring models is the exciting all-new limited edition 2010 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution SE - the SE standing for "Special Edition," which borrows many of the best features from both models to create what may be the ultimate Evolution.

Key performance components carried over from the top-of-the-line MR edition to the SE version include the ultra-high performance suspension package that employs Eibach springs and Bilstein shock absorbers, two-piece Brembo front brake rotors with remarkable stopping power and Mitsubishi's lightning-fast Twin Clutch-Sportronic Shift Transmission (TC-SST) that allows for split-second gear shifts via either steering wheel paddle shifters or the shift lever without a clutch pedal.

Gone are the small (GSR) and large (MR) wings atop the rear deck lid; like the MR touring model, the new Evo SE makes use of a small, less conspicuous lip spoiler. Other highlights include brightly illuminating HID headlights and a choice of four colors - Graphite Gray, Wicked White, Phantom Black and Octane Blue.

Heated cloth RECARO seats and exclusive "SE" badging round out the Lancer Evolution SE's unique packaging, one that provides a very high degree of speed and agility in a visually more discreet and affordable package.

While remaining true to the core values that have made the Lancer Evolution synonymous with thrilling performance, the next-generation 2010 model offers new premium features and user technology options for a more refined driving experience.

The 2010 Lancer Evolution showcases the latest performance and handling technology, including an all-aluminum 291-hp 2.0-liter turbocharged and intercooled engine and the Super-All Wheel Control (S-AWC) dynamic handling system. S-AWC regulates the drive torque at each wheel by controlling a network of advanced dynamic handling technologies including Active Center Differential (ACD) 4-wheel-drive, Active Yaw Control (AYC) rear differential, Active Stability Control (ASC) and sport ABS brakes. A helical gear-type limited-slip front differential is used.

The 4B11 DOHC in line 4-cylinder engine, based on a reinforced cast-aluminum cylinder block, employs a direct-acting valvetrain for reduced weight and MIVEC variable valve timing is used on both the intake and exhaust camshafts. The rear-located (firewall side) stainless steel exhaust manifold helps improve overall weight distribution.

A shark-nosed front end inspired by jet fighter air intakes, a distinct wedge-like profile, and crisp and taut lines highlight the Lancer Evolution's signature face and profile. New for 2010 are updated larger side air dams, tail lamps with black extensions and a short pole 200 mm antenna. Its unique front end, aggressively sloping hood with integral air scoop and engine heat outlets, boxed fenders and 18-inch wheels impart the Lancer Evolution with the look of the street-wise sports machine.

The Lancer Evolution features its own distinct suspension system, including inverted struts in front and a rear multi-link configuration, with numerous forged aluminum components to help reduce unsprung weight. The 18 x 8.5-inch wheels (Enkei cast-alloy on the GSR and BBS forged-alloy on the MR) are shod with large (245/40R18) tarmac-grabbing Yokohama ADVAN asymmetrical performance tires at all four corners.

Adding a dash of even more comfort and civility, the 2010 Lancer Evolution features many new revisions for improved everyday driving. A new high-contrast multi-color LCD instrument meter enhances visibility while a leather-clad parking brake lever with chrome release button adds a premium touch. The MR model receives an additional premium touch - Phantom Black interior accents.

Reflecting the tastes of the ever-broadening Evolution customer base, a hands-free Bluetooth cell phone interface system is now standard as well as an MP3 auxiliary input jack for all models, while available User technologies include a Rockford Fosgate audio and navigation system with music server.

Standard safety features include an advanced dual front air bag supplemental restraint system (SRS) with occupant sensors, standard front seat-mounted side-impact air bags and side curtain air bags, plus a driver's knee airbag.

Three other Lancer Evolution models will be offered in the U.S. for 2010: the GSR with a five speed manual transmission; the Lancer Evolution MR that is equipped with a 6-speed Twin-Clutch Sportronic Shift Transmission (TC-SST) - an automated manual transmission with magnesium steering wheel shifter paddles and a console shifter - Bilstein shock absorbers and Eibach springs, two-piece Brembo front brake rotors, BBS forged-alloy wheels and HID headlamps; and the MR Touring model, more comfortably equipped for everyday use with a power glass sunroof, leather seating surfaces, heated front seats, rear lip spoiler, insulated front windshield glass and improved sound insulation.

Mitsubishi and TEAM PAWS Chicago Join Forces to Help Save Homeless Pets

Wed, Aug 04, 2010 - CYPRESS, California -

Mitsubishi Motors North America, Inc., (MMNA) has joined forces with one of the premier non-profit animal rescue and adoption agencies to help find loving homes for dogs and cats in America's third largest city.

Mitsubishi has signed on as the Official Wheels of TEAM PAWS Chicago as it supports local athletes competing in three of the city's premier athletic events - the Rock 'n' Roll Chicago Half Marathon on August 1, the Chicago Triathlon on August 29 and the Bank of America Chicago Marathon on October 10 - in the organization's efforts to raise $500,000.

As part of the promotion, Mitsubishi will be providing TEAM PAWS Chicago with its own mid-size 7-passenger Outlander GT crossover utility vehicle (CUV) for use as a support vehicle for its series of events. The Outlander model has received numerous pet-friendly accolades including being named one of the top 10 Pet Safe Vehicles by Edmunds.com and the pet safety experts at Bark Buckle Up, and has also garnered a prestigious "Five Paws" rating from DogCars.com.

This fall, Mitsubishi will be rolling out an all-new vehicle that is sure to be another hit with our four-legged friends and their owners. The 2011 Outlander Sport is a stylish and roomy 5-passenger compact crossover that not only achieves an impressive 31 mpg highway but has also received very favorable reviews from America's leading automotive media outlets.

Participants joining TEAM PAWS Chicago will receive numerous free benefits including athletic training with CARA (Chicago Area Runners Association) for runners while triathletes get coaching from Chicago Endurance Sports, a one-year subscription to Runner's World magazine and monthly pet informational seminars.

"We are thrilled to be partnering with Mitsubishi," said Lisa Nowak, PAWS Chicago Development Director. "Now that we have full-time access to the new Outlander, we've been able to build the biggest team to-date due to the increased mobility, pet functionality and marketing presence that it offers. It of course doesn't hurt having a 'work' vehicle that really is fun to drive, too."

At the time of its launch in 1997, more than 42,000 homeless cats and dogs were being put to sleep each year in the Windy City - about 800 every week. But thanks in large part to the work being done by PAWS Chicago, these numbers have since dropped in half. The group's innovative and highly-visible programs including the Angels with Tails dog and cat adoption events and the high-volume, free and low-cost Lurie Spay/Neuter Clinic, the latter facility opening in 2001, have led to a 60 percent reduction in the number of homeless cats and dogs being euthanized in the greater Chicago metropolitan area.

The i-MiEVs Have Landed

The i-MiEVs Have Landed

Mitsubishi Motors North America announces the arrival of i-MiEV to its national press fleet. Japanese Domestic market versions of this battery electric vehicle will be available for loan from seven STI Fleet Services locations (Detroit, New York, Washington D.C., Chicago, San Francisco, Los Angeles, and Seattle).

This loan program seeks to acquaint a select number of media with the electric car experience by allowing them to live with the vehicle for several days. Acceleration, charging, range management, and the variable effect of vehicle climate controls on the car's operation will all be tested and experienced during this loan.

The Japanese Domestic Market i-MiEV went on sale in Japan in the summer of 2009. The vehicle goes on sale in Europe later this year and then a North American version arrives to market in fall of 2011.

Mitsubishi Motors to Loan Two i-MiEVs to the State of California for Evaluation

Mitsubishi Motors to Loan Two i-MiEVs to the State of California for Evaluation

5/25/2010

SACRAMENTO, California, May 25, 2010 - Mitsubishi Motors North America, Inc., (MMNA) announced it will loan two of its zero-emission, new-generation, i-MiEVs to the State of California for evaluation in their test fleet. The move comes as the Governor's office and the Department of General Services both expressed interest in the inclusion of electric vehicles (EV), such as the i-MiEV, into the State's support vehicle fleet.

During a May 24th press event, Governor Schwarzenegger was introduced to the Mitsubishi Motors i-MiEV by company officers. Schwarzenegger sat in the i-MiEV, and later spoke to a panel of reporters about the battery electric vehicle being representative of the technology necessary to tackle the sustainable transportation challenges facing the State of California.

Key committees within the California State Legislature seek to gain experience with battery electric transportation to help better understand and resolve the challenges facing the development of EV infrastructure. Lawmakers and officials will have these vehicles available for extended test-drives to learn the nuances of driving an EV and experience the recharging process.

The i-MiEV went on sale in Japan in July of 2009. This efficiently-designed, battery electric, sub-compact vehicle seats four adults, and can be recharged from a standard wall-socket. The State of California will be evaluating production model RHD Japanese Domestic Market versions of the i-MiEV. Mitsubishi Motorsplans to introduce an EV for U.S. consumers 2011.

MMNA is responsible for all manufacturing, finance, sales, marketing, research and development operations for Mitsubishi Motors in the United States. MMNA sells coupes, convertibles, sedans, sport utility vehicles, and light trucks through a network of approximately 400 dealers.

Schaller Mitsubishi Hail Damage

Dear Valued Customer,

On May 26, 2010 New Britain Connecticut experienced a rare storm that included a short period of small sub-marble sized hail.  Some of the vehicles that were located at Schaller Honda and Schaller Mitsubishi were affected by the storm.

The affected vehicles sustained very minor damage to mostly the top painted surfaces, some metal moldings and a few glass panels.  The vast majority of the vehicles sustained negligible to no more than $325 in damage with a few selected vehicles reaching as high as $600.  As a comparison, repairing and refinishing minor front bumper damage on a new car in Hartford can exceed $1200!

Minor hail damage is repaired by replacing affected moldings with new factory parts and by repairing painted surfaces with a Paintless Dent Removal Process (PDR).  This process repairs the small hail "dent" by applying slight pressure from INSIDE the panel.  The finished panels are nearly perfect and the previous damage is undetectable to the naked eye.  This repair in no way breaks the factory paint finish and does not affect the factory paint or corrosion warranty in any way.  In fact the repair comes with a Lifetime Guarantee from the repairing contractor.

Schaller Auto World has full confidence in retailing these vehicles and offers some at a substantial discount considering their inconsequentially light repairs.

If you have additional questions or would like more information on this process please ask to speak to the General Manager, Sales Manager, or consult your salesperson.

Schaller Autoworld participates in Financial Reality Fair for Over 400 Students From Area High Schools

Achieve Financial Credit Union was proud to help sponsor and organize a financial literacy simulation for high schools students. Students from sixteen high schools, including Avon, Berlin, New Britain, Plainville, Southington, and Wethersfield High, participated in an exercise intended to prepare them for some of the real life decisions they will be making when they complete their education and live on their own for the first time.

To prepare for the event, students selected a career, researched the starting salary for their selected careers, and forwarded this information to Fair organizers.  The career and salary were used to create an individual budget worksheet which included line items for all of the monthly expenses and one time expenses the students would expect to encounter when living on their own.

Each student was assigned a student loan payment appropriate for the selected career, a savings account and a checking account with modest balances, a credit card with a credit limit and a balance, and a randomly assigned credit score.  Students were then directed to visit over 40 booths set up in CCSU's Alumni Hall to purchase required goods and services such as housing, transportation, food, clothing, and insurance, as well as other optional services such as electronics, pets, and entertainment.  Their goal was to purchase everything they needed while staying within their budget for one month.   Students were then required to meet with a Financial Counselor to calculate their expenses, discuss their decisions, and strategies for credit and savings management.

This event highlights the commitment of your Credit Union to develop financial literacy in our students before they have to make real choices that impact them for the rest of their lives.

Mitsubishi Motors Lineup at the 2010 Geneva International Motor Show

Mitsubishi Motors Lineup at the 2010 Geneva International Motor Show

Mitsubishi Motors Corporation (MMC) this week gave the new ASX compact crossover its global debut at the 80th Geneva International Motor Show which runs through March 14.  MMC will display a total of 11 during public days including vehicles already sold in Europe and the revolutionary Mitsubishi Concept PX-MiEV, which contains the Mitsubishi Plug-in Hybrid System, and was first displayed at the 2009 Tokyo Motor Show.

With the Mitsubishi Plug-in Hybrid System, the Concept PX-MiEV runs primarily as an electric vehicle with a gasoline engine in support which, as required, acts as an electric generator or provides an additional source of motive power. This new-generation crossover balances high environmental efficiency and performance by utilizing electric differential motors and an all-new S-AWC that utilizes E-AYC which controls torque to the rear wheels.

The ASX compact crossover is the European-spec version of the RVR, which was unveiled on February 17, 2010 in Japan.  The ASX achieves superior environmental efficiency with the combination of its DI-D MIVEC direct-injection diesel engine jointly developed by MMC and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. featuring Automatic Stop & Go and a VG (variable geometry) turbo, mated to a 6-speed manual transmission.  In recent years, the crossover category has grown in the European automobile market, and MMC is responding by adding the compact ASX to the midsize Outlander.

RECENT REVIEWS OF OUR VEHICLES

Lancer Sportback Review

Chicago  Sun Times 3/3/2010
"The Lancer line of vehicles long has been the bread and butter of Mitsubishi offerings and for 2010 there is a sharp-looking five-door model that joins the ranks."

"The biggest and best part of the Sportback Ralliart is its fantastic drivetrain that offers a taste of the Evolution without the hefty dinner check."

"The paddle shift transmission is fun and shifts are crisp, especially in the sport shift mode. Blipping through the gears won't peel your eyelids back, but you won't get passed by the kid in the minivan."

"Another selling point for the Sportback Ralliart is all-wheel drive. This system gets the pavement bite going in a hurry."

"While the Lancer Sportback Ralliart doesn't have the Evolution's brutal power, turbo lag or razor edge handling, it still returns some driving grins, has more utility, a lower entry price of $27,590 and isn't quite as thirsty."

Outlander Review

San Diego Union Tribune 2/27/2010
"The Mitsubishi Outlander doesn't redefine automotive expectations, but clever and considerate engineering make it an overachieving family vehicle."

"I liked the Outlander V-6 because it was straightforward to use and drive. Its turning circle is a trim 34.8 feet, and there are just so many ways to use its cargo and seating capacity."

"Much thought went into the engineering of pieces that flip-fold-push-pull, which work without grunts, groans or pinched fingers."

"The third row bench is a design marvel."

"This eager crossover is another example of a compact vehicle helping owners do more with less, but it is Outlander's little details that make a big impression."

Dear Joanne:

On behalf of the City of New Britain and the Veterans' Commission, thank you very much for your help this year with our Memorial Day Parade, especially with the short notice I gave you. Your assistance was invaluable in arranging to have Art Schaller Jr. drive our Honorary Parade Marshall and Veteran, Mr. Danielewicz, throughout the Memorial Day Parade in his gorgeous antique 1930 Chevy Phaeton convertible. Please also be sure to extend our sincere appreciation to Mr. Schaller Jr. on our behalf. This was surely an event in which New Britain could take pride. Your participation played an instrumental role in its success, enriched our Parade, and most importantly, enabled one of our elderly Veterans (who was unable to easily walk the whole route) to participate in the Parade. The other 2 Veterans I originally thought we would have to transport ended up wanting to walk the Parade route, even though one of them was also elderly (but younger than Mr. Danielewicz).

We appreciate your time and effort, as well as that of Mr. Schaller Jr., in creating this memorable experience for New Britain, our Veterans, and all who attended. I will always remember your kindness!

Thank you again to Mr. Schaller Jr. for being a part of our Parade and for donating his time and beautiful car that night and to you, Joanne, for making that a possibility by coordinating everything! We appreciate all you did for us!

Sincerely,

Sandy

Subject: 2008 Evolution Battery Maintenance

Subject: Battery Maintenance during long term storage

Vehicles:  2008 Evolution

Due to the fact that vehicles are sitting longer in dealership storage lots, it is imperative that the vehicle battery be properly maintained.

The Lancer Evolution has a new hybrid battery that is different than most conventional style batteries.  The 2008 Lancer Evolution Service manual provides the proper maintenance steps required to maintain the vehicle battery while in storage.  This battery has been designed to operate in a closed environment (trunk room) without gassing like the more conventional batteries. One other critical difference is that this battery can not be discharged and left in a discharged state for very long without incurring permanent damage.

It is critical that the battery voltage be maintained at 12.4 volts or more (this is listed on the VIMS sheet in every vehicle). If the measured voltage is less than 12.4 then a 5 amp or less trickle charger should be used to recharge the battery, as outlined in the 2008 Evolution service manual.  Charging rates above the 5 amp limit may cause damage the battery.

Please remember that the maintenance on batteries in your stock vehicles are your responsibility. Normal warranty for replacement of batteries in your inventory is not approved.

Additionally, it is a good idea to pull out the IOD fuse during this long term storage. This reduces dark current draw by more than 50%, thus extending the battery life.
